A weekend of care and comfort
A weekend of care and comfort

A beautifully articulated description of the myth of closure.

Nancy explains the reality of what "closure is and is not", especially to those of us "moms" who do not see closure as an option; that closure really doesn't exist. Her words brought me comfort and an understanding of my anger when people said to me, "it's time to move on", or, "it's been long enough", or "you need to do such and such for closure".

In my experience, there is no such thing because closure would be equivalent to saying that my son Matthew never existed. I appreciate that people say these things in an effort to help us moms to "feel" better"...... that perhaps this term entitled closure' will ease our pain. Or, maybe it helps others be more comfortable with their own pain as they watch their beloved friend, spouse, sister, daughter hurting so deeply.

The reality is, it is not about the person trying to do the soothing; what helps is to try and be right there in her pain with her.... we know this is very hard to do, however, being able to do this is a true gift to give a bereaved mom.

Check out Nancy's video. I found her to be real, honest and sensitive, AND what she says makes complete sense to me -- from one bereaved mom to another.
